Today there are lots of schools claiming to be amongst the best medical schools, it is important to ascertain whether those schools are recognized by the state in which they operate as well as the Board. This article will give you an overview of medical schools and medical programs recognized by the Medical Board in California. You may wonder what the difference is between a school which is recognized by the Medical Board and school which is not. Simply stated, a school which is not recognized or listed is an entity which may not only not be recognized, but also disapproved after application. If a school is not listed, chances are that either their education, training, or both was found to be unacceptable for licensure in California. If this is the case, chances are that students who attended such schools will be required to retake some or all of the classes taken at such a school. To avoid this, be sure to only attend or take classes at a school that is listed on the Medical Board of California website. Additionally, if you have had training outside of the United States, you must also consult the Board. You want to make sure that the school you attend outside of the U.S. pass the same quality scrutiny that the best medical schools in the United States do. This includes questions with regards to the language in which your coursework was presented. While some foreign schools may be considered the as one of the best medical schools in a particular country, it doesn’t mean that their standards meet those laid out by the Board. Therefore, even if your training outside the United States was in English, each school must still be recognized by the Board and each medical program also recognized.
As of the writing of this article, there are slightly over 130 schools in the United States that are recognized as the best medical schools by the Medical Board of California. Any schools that do not appear on this list as of the publication date of this article, you should not even consider taking any classes that lead to licensure. If you live plan on attending medical school in California, you will notice that a number of the best medical schools in California are state schools. Therefore, price is not always a consideration when it comes to a quality education.
